1983 – 1986:

• Good360’s parent and predecessor, Gifts In Kind, is formed to distribute about $12 million in new office equipment donated by 3M.

• The new nonprofit is officially incorporated on March 13, 1984.

• By 1986, product donations valued at almost $44 million are distributed to qualified nonprofit organizations.

• 80,000 vacuum cleaners are donated to after school programs, senior centers, and nonprofits.

 

1987 – 1990:

• Gifts In Kind expands its logistics operation to include 10 warehouses.

• Gifts In Kind leads a successful effort to defeat proposed tax regulations that would adversely impact product donations.

• Gifts In Kind is renamed Gifts In Kind America to better reflect the organization’s nationwide affiliate growth.

• Gifts In Kind America contributes to Hurricane Hugo and California earthquake relief efforts.

• Gifts In Kind named the fastest growing and most efficient charity in the country by The Nonprofit Times.

 

1991 – 1994:

• The Pew Charitable Trusts provides a major grant for Gifts In Kind America’s Housing, Community Services, and Technology Programs.

• More than 5,000 charities receive donated software programs through Gifts In Kind.

• Retail Donation Partner Program is introduced, allowing local charities to partner with retail stores in their communities.

• Money Magazine names Gifts In Kind America the most efficient of the nation’s 100 largest national charities.

• Housing America is introduced in cooperation with the Home Improvement Industry’s Affordable Housing Coalition, The Home Depot, and The Pew Charitable Trusts.

 

1995 – 1998:

• In 1996, Gifts In Kind America changes its name to Gifts In Kind International.

• Gifts In Kind works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist in national disaster recovery efforts, including the California fires, hurricanes in Florida and the Virgin Islands, and the Oklahoma City bombing.

• More than a dozen retailers begin participating in the Retail Donation Partner program.

• An annual technology survey by Gifts In Kind International tracks the implementation of electronic technologies within the charitable sector.

• Number of corporate donors hits 350.

• Gifts In Kind is recognized as 13th largest nonprofit in America by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

 

1999 – 2002:

• Value of product donations distributed through Gifts In Kind reached $600 million.

• Gifts In Kind International assists the Federal Emergency Management Agency and others involved in the September 11 disaster recovery efforts in New York City and Washington, D.C.

• More than 40 percent of the Fortune 500 work with Gifts In Kind International to manage their product giving programs, including selection, logistics, public relations and reporting requirements.

• In 2002, Gifts In Kind distributes product donations valued at almost $800 million.

 

2003 – 2009:

• Gifts In Kind and The Home Depot launch the Framing Hope program, offering donated building supplies in communities across America.

• Gifts In Kind International hosts the first-ever Product Philanthropy Conference in Alexandria, Va.

• Cindy Hallberlin is appointed as President and CEO of Gifts In Kind International.

 

2009 – present:

• The Washington Nationals baseball franchise partners with Gifts In Kind International to collect donated toothbrushes for Haitians following the 2010 earthquake.

• Gifts In Kind International begins to offer free registration to nonprofits via an online registration tool.

• The organization partners with the American Trucking Association to launch an online transportation donation website so that trucking companies can donate transportation to help ship product donations to nonprofits around the country.

• Gifts In Kind International organized public service projects for the National Leagues of Cities and the Association of Fundraising Professionals annual convention. Attendees sorted product donations that were distributed to the Denver and Chicago communities.

• On April 19, 2011 Gifts In Kind International changed its name to Good360. Read here for more details about why we became Good360.
